What is ISoc?
Alhamdulilah, the Cambridge University Islamic Society (CU ISoc) is one of the largest and most active societies in Cambridge. Our aim is to serve the social, spiritual and academic needs of Muslims in Cambridge by the grace of Allah SWT. Islamic values lie at the core of all of our activities within the Society, creating a space where people can practise and learn more about Islam. We host a range of events throughout the year, from socials to spiritual talks, organised by our Executive Committee and Subcommittees.
We are excited to see CU ISoc continue to grow and flourish. Below, you can see a snapshot of ISoc’s work - please do make sure to explore the rest of our lovely site to find out more on what we offer and everything that goes on at ISoc!
Community
We provide a community for Muslims in Cambridge by hosting a range of initiatives with the wider Cambridge community, such as interfaith events, Explore Islam Week and Homeless Outreach. Our Prayer Room, located in Sidgwick Site, serves as a hub for spiritual and social activity. We also have links to other local Muslim groups, such as Cambridge Central Mosque. Through our events, dedicated welfare team and long term projects, we hope to look after our Muslim community in Cambridge.
Spiritual Events
Guided by Islamic principles, we facilitate a wide range of spiritual events. This includes weekly Jummah prayers for students and staff held in central Cambridge. We also have a series of regular talks as part of of our Islamic Foundations Course, as well as a range of others covering a breadth of topics. These are led by both local scholars and guest speakers. We hope to provide a space where Muslims can learn more about their faith and practise confidently while at university.
Charity
As a core part of Islam, our ISoc is actively involved in charity, running a variety of projects to raise money for the needy. Charity Week is one of our busiest weeks, where ISocs all over the UK do their very best to raise as much money for orphans and needy children as possible, through different activities and events. Some of our flagship events include the Charity Week Dinner and the Snowdon Climb.
Access
We are keen to encourage Muslims to apply to Cambridge and support prospective students throughout the whole application process, so that they can take advantage of Cambridge’s many opportunities. Through our mentoring scheme and annual Access Conference, we help students through what can be a daunting process and help to demystify the Cambridge experience for Muslims. Please see our Access Programmes for more details.
