Accommodation in Cambridge

For many of us, living away at university will be the first time we have moved away from home and this can seem daunting. Whilst we here at ISoc can give you some tips and recommendations on accommodation via our College Reps, your college Accommodation Officer should be your first point of contact; they will be able to provide you with more specific and up to date information.

Undergraduate Accommodation

All colleges provide accommodation for undergraduate students during their first year of study and most for the whole duration. Your choice of college is key to determining what your accommodation preferences are. Important things to look out for are:

  • The number of en-suite rooms

  • The kitchen facilities

  • Whether a fridge is provided to your room (many colleges do on religious grounds)

  • The location of the accommodation, since many do not necessarily lie within the college main site

  • Average rent cost (varies per college)

Some of the points above are covered in our College Guides, but we would recommend checking either college websites or contacting one of the College Reps to find out more information.

Graduate Accommodation

Some colleges provide accommodation for graduate students, especially colleges that admit mature students only.

Outside of college accommodation, many of the brothers and sisters within ISoc choose to live on Mill Road, which is home to the Cambridge mosques, including Cambridge Central Mosque, as well as a wide range of halal restaurants, take-aways and shops.

We would recommend you doing your own research thoroughly before renting out private accommodation and using what we have pointed out here as a simple starting point Insha’Allah!

Additional Information

The University Accommodation Service is run by the University to provide information on accommodation both owned by the University and privately. The link to register for the service is here. Once registered, you will be able to search a regularly updated website. The office to the University Accommodation Service can be found at Kellet Lodge on Tennis Court Road if you need further information or advice.

Additional information regarding accommodation can also be found on the Cambridge University Accommodation Page to living in Cambridge, both in college and out.
