Welfare
What we do
Undoubtedly, studying at Cambridge comes with its tough moments, whether that be from work, social life, or homesickness. Here at ISoc, we know that during these moments it can feel very lonely and inflict damage on our mental health.
For this reason, we have a designated team of welfare officers who hold various events throughout the year to help our members’ welfare. These include talks from experts and weekly drop in sessions.
In addition to this, our society acts as one body. Everyone cares and looks out for each other, so fear not, there will always be someone there for you when you need them.
Our Welfare Events
Welfare Walks
Our new weekly Welfare Walks are an opportunity to destress and take your mind off whatever’s worrying you. We usually have them after Fajr in the PR, but for sisters in the summer it’s after Asr and will try to spend an hour walking to Grantchester, Coe Fen or anywhere else we fancy. See you soon!
Drop-In Sessions
We host biweekly welfare drop-in sessions on Saturdays for anyone who wants to discuss any welfare issues with a brother or sister. We’ll usually publicise them on our WhatsApp group chats, so click on “Join ISoc” in the top right hand corner of the page for more. A problem is shared is a problem halved!
Study Sessions
Studying at Cambridge during Exam Season can be tough. That’s why we have weekly study sessions during Easter Term to help motivate our members to have a healthy relationship with their studies. Again, we usually publicity our study sessions on our WhatsApp chats so keep your eyes peeled!
Welfare Wednesdays
We host biweekly Welfare Wednesdays in the Prayer Room for anyone who wants to chat and have snacks with friends. They were really popular during Easter term, allowing members of our Society to take short breaks between long study shifts in the library!

Verses of Qur’an and Hadith on the Welfare of Believers
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
“By the morning sunlight, and the night when it falls still! Your Lord [O Prophet] has not abandoned you, nor has He become hateful [of you]. And the next life is certainly far better for you than this one. And [surely] your Lord will give so much to you that you will be pleased.”
Nu’Man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever. “
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“And know that what has passed you by [and you have failed to attain] was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and hardship with ease.”
