Emmanuel
Welcome to Emmanuel College!
Welcome to Emmanuel College (affectionately called Emma), one of Cambridge's friendliest colleges!
Our names are Hibaak (studying third-year law) and Nabeel (studying second-year medicine)! We are here to help you decide whether Emma is a college you should consider applying to!
Pros
Emma is a central college: 9-minute walk from King’s Parade; 20-minute walk from the station; within walking distance from almost all lecture sites (particularly Downing Site for NatScis and Medics/Vets, and Babbage Lecture Theatre for Mathmos and 1st Year Medics)
Very close to the local mosques as well as Mill Road - home to a variety of halal restaurants
In close proximity to a variety of shops including both Sainsbury’s (main) and Sainsbury’s local
The college is ‘medium sized’ with 6 courts and a unique underground passageway
College accommodation is available for all 3 years of undergraduate studies given the size of the college
A nice mix of cool architecture and peaceful greenery (especially the Paddock!)
Financial support is available
24-hour library
2 free bookable squash courts and a table tennis table - all on-site!
An outdoor college swimming pool that opens in Easter Term
Free laundry!
And of course, the ducks!
Cons
Currently very limited halal options in halls - looking to change this slowly
Ensuites are not as easily available as in some other colleges
Washing Facilities
One of the few colleges with free laundry! You simply drop off your bag of laundry and they do the rest - they fold it up for you and everything.
Prayer Space
The college has a ‘Reflection Room’ in Emmanuel House which can be used as a prayer space.
Halal Food
Halal food is slowly being introduced into halls with some options available occasionally. We hope to make halal food a permanent option soon In’sha’Allah. The veggie/fish options aren’t too bad. During Ramadan, Emma offers a system of collecting food from halls just before Iftar.
Fridge/Freezer Provision
Every Emma student is provided with their own mini fridge including a small freezer.
Ensuite
For first-year students, only grade 6 rooms are en suite. Other rooms have a sink (all rooms in Old South). Some do not have either and would need to be reliant on shared bathrooms.
Concluding Remark
If you are a Muslim student coming to Emma, then do get in touch and join our Emma ISoc groupchat! We would be more than happy to answer any questions or help with any problems settling in.
Emma is a lovely college and we are sure you would enjoy your time here InshaAllah!
