CU ISoc Subcommittees 2024-25

ISoc is involved in a wide range of activities and our subcommittees make this possible. If you have enquiries or suggestions, please feel free to contact the Head of any subcommittee below.

  • Access

    Head: Abdullah Nadeem

    Supports prospective Muslim applicants applying to university, through online mentoring, access open days, and mock interviews. Visit our Access Programmes page for more information.

  • Alumni Relations

    Maintains the ISoc alumni network so those that have graduated can remain in contact and continue being part of the ISoc family.

  • Believe and Do Good

    Believe and Do Good

    Head: Sahar Mujli

    Believe and Do Good is a campaign which runs throughout February to benefit the local community and help us spread the message of Islam through acts of kindness and community service.

  • Biennial Dinner

    Biennial Dinner

    Head: Amna Farooq

    CUISoc's Biennial Dinner stands as a cornerstone among our flagship events, bringing together our esteemed community of current and alumni members. The subcommittee plays a pivotal role by engaging with alumni, securing sponsors, and planning the dinner itself.

  • Careers

    Head: Sharafiab Chowdhury

    Focused on enhancing the career prospects and skills of the Muslim community through informative careers panels and events.

  • Charity

    Head: Jiyaad Ali

    Responsible for organising Charity Week, which involves cake sales, the Snowdon hike, fundraising events and the Charity Dinner & Auction.

  • Community & Outreach

    Head: Sahar Mulji

    Works to serve the local community through outreach projects. This includes organising the weekly Homeless Outreach for ISoc members to volunteer and help in handing out food and hot drinks.

    The hub of creativity lies here with the design subcommittee; the creators behind the incredible posters used throughout our social media!

    Responsible for ensuring ISoc events run smoothly, from booking venues to providing refreshments and helping run the engaging circles for everyone’s benefit.

  • Explore Islam Week

    Explore Islam Week

    Head: Yosef Abdelhalim and Imaan Bhaji

    The EIW Subcommittee is responsible for organising and planning the flagship events and initiatives (such as the staple EIW Exhibition and Open Mic Night) that characterise Explore Islam Week; a week where we work to show the beauty of Islam to the Cambridge community at large. The subcommittee plays a role in the pre-events brainstorming and shaping, as well as spearheading the on-the-ground implementation.

  • Graduate Reps

    Head: Shihab Ahmed

    Dedicated to enhancing the university experience for graduate students, and ensure the presence of ISoc is maintained outside term-time to provide for those who stay in Cambridge.

  • Iftar

    Iftar

    Head: Hamzah Iqbal

    Involved in working to serve our community by providing CUISoc members subsidised iftar meals during Ramadan.

  • Interfaith

    Head: Yosef Abdelhalim and Imaan Bhaiji

    Responsible for liaising with other faith societies, as well as organising events aimed at promoting interfaith relations, such as Explore Islam Week during Lent term.

    In charge of organising prayer mats, and ensuring the smooth running of the weekly ISoc Friday Prayer.

  • Muslimah Week

    Muslimah Week

    Head: Abrar Hassan

    This subcommittee is responsible for the organisation of Muslimah week, a week centred around the celebration of legendary Muslimah, both past and present through a range of socials and events.

  • Prayer Room

    Responsible for maintaining and the regular cleaning of the ISoc Prayer Room.

  • Socials

    Head: Shihab Ahmed

    From the more causal Prayer Room chills to the more sophisticated garden parties, this subcommittee organises plenty of socials to help its members relax when university work gets stressful.

  • Social Media

    Head: Muntaha Chowdhury

    Manages posts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and makes them available for viewing so you don’t miss out on our amazing events!

    Aims to raise supporting funds from sponsors for ISoc’s events such as the Access Conference, Charity Week, Explore Islam Week and Ramadan.

    Involved in the handling of the general maintenance of the website as well as dealing with technical issues.
