Dr. Haifaa Younis

“The Love of Allah”

Dr Haifaa Younis is an American Board-Certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Her pursuit of gaining Islamic knowledge consists of 18 years of studying with various Shuyukh across the United States and Jeddah, on sciences such as Fiqh, Hadith, Aqidah and Tazkiyyah. She is a graduate from the Makkah Institute of Islamic Studies and Al-Huda Qur’an memorization School in Jeddah, where she completed her hifdh of the Qur’an. She is now the founder and chairman of Jannah Institute, where she delivers Tafseer of the Qur’an and their practical relevance to our day to day lives and retreats across the world focusing on combining the inner essence of Islam with the outward expression of practice.

Imam Sejad

“How to spend Ramadan as University Student during a pandemic”

Dr Sejad Mekic is the first appointed Imam of Cambridge Central Mosque, having already served as an imam in Masjids in Bosnia, London and Cambridge, as well serving as a Muslim Chaplain. His pursuit of gaining Islamic knowledge consists of studying at a Madrasa in Travnik, Bosnia before completing his BA in Islamic Studies at the University of Wales, his MPhil at the University of Cambridge and his PhD on being a 20th century Bosnian Muslim Scholar at SOAS. He is currently serving as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Exeter. He is the author of “A Muslim Reformist in Communist Yugoslavia: The Life and Thought of Husein Dozo and several other scholarly articles.

Iqbal Nasim MBE

“Transform My Prayer – 7 tips to take your Salat to the next level.”

ISoc’s very own Iqbal Nasim is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the National Zakat Foundation(NZF), the UK’s only local Zakat platform. Through the charity, he has raised over £15 million to help struggling Muslims all over the UK. In 2019 he was awarded an MBE for his work in Tackling Poverty and Community Development.

Iqbal also studied at Cambridge, graduating with an MA in Economics and Management. During his time there, he was heavily involved in ISoc, having a stint as VP and President. Afterwards he spent 5 years as an equity research analyst in an investment bank before moving to NFZ.

Outside of work, Iqbal has given hundreds of talks and Jummah sermons on a variety of subjects relating to Islam, with Zakat and Salah being his passion. He is also a Hafiz and has official license for the accurate recitation of the Qur’an with an unbroken chain of teachers back to the Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

Dr Wajid Akhter

“What the 3 greatest treasures of the Mughals can teach you about life”

Dr Muhammad Wajid Akhter MBBS MRCGP BSc (Hons) MFMLM PgDip (Cardiology) is a certified GP Principal in Essex and a medical tutor in Social Media and Medicine & History of Medicine at Barts and The London Medical School.

He is the Vice President of the British Islamic Medical Association, an Islamic Historian who authors various articles for Muslim Matters and both founder and board member of an organisation close to all of our hearts, Charity Week. Charity Week is a 100% volunteer-led campaign of Islamic Relief that raises money for Orphans & Needy Children following both Islamic and humanitarian principles. Starting from a trial run using a shoebox and a handwritten poster in St Georges Medical School, it is now serving countless families in 6 countries worldwide, and fosters an ultimate vision to become a vehicle to inspire young people to become active, socially engaged and united in the name of Allah.

Shaykh Ashiqur Rahman

“Friend of Allah”

Shaykh Kazi Ashiqur Rahman is a lead Imam and Khateeb. His pursuit of gaining Islamic knowledge consists of studying at the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, from the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language, with an MA in Shari’ah. Having attained an Ijaazah in a number of Qir’aat (dialectal recitations) from various Shuyookh across the globe, he specialises in the Art of Mujawwad and Maqamat.

He is an experienced Qur’an and Islamic studies teacher at Mimbar Academy and serves as one of the key drivers of Darul Ummah in East London where he delivers various courses on the Islamic Sciences such as Hadith from Imam Nawawi’s Riyadh-us-Saliheen, Tafseer and Fiqh.

Shaykh Ashiqur Rahman

“The Art of Du’a”

Ustadh Shabbir Hassan is a lead Imam for Exeter Masjid, a public speaker and poet. His pursuit of gaining Islamic knowledge started with completing his Hifdh-al-Qur’an at age 12. Having attained his Shahadat al-‘Alimiyyah from Ebrahim College, he now serves as an instructor for Q Iman, delivering programmes focused on the Islamic sciences such as Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir, Aqidah, Sirah and Arabic.

He is a Faith Space UK facilitator, which aims to inspire and be inspired by the Light of our Lord,. He hosts the Ilmfeed podcast, a platform that spreads positive news about Muslims and shares inspirational success stories and is a founder of Nikah Co, the UK’s leading bespoke Nikah service provider.

Sheikh Sajid Umar

“Laylatul Qadr: The Night of Mercy”

Sheikh Sajid Umar is a qualified Mufti and Judge, as well as an educator, author, researcher, and developer with a vision of igniting communities that benefit humanity upon the ethos of sincerity, excellence and steadfastness. His pursuit of gaining Islamic knowledge consists of graduating from a Qur’an academy at age 18. He later enrolled into Imaam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, where he completed a Diploma in Arabic Language and Islamic Sciences, a Bachelor’s degree in Shariah, and Masters in Judiciary, with a first-class honours from the Higher Institute for Judiciary studies. He successfully completed his academic thesis on the topic of Liquidity Management, it’s Islamic rulings and permitted alternatives. He is now pursuing his PhD in the Higher Institute of Judiciary at Al-Imam University.

Among his many accomplishments, Sheikh Sajid is the chairman of AlKauthar Institute, the leading provider of Islamic education, which delivers courses on Aqeedah, Seerah, Qur’an studies, Arabic, Fiqh, Tarbiyyah, Tazkiya and Islamic History. He is a lecturer at Knowledge International University in Riyadh and the director of Islamic Development for Mercy Mission World, which delivers innovating programs to serve Islam. He has project managed several media-related programs specific to Islamic Satellite Channels such as Eman Channel, lectured in Masajids and headed International conferences.
