Events

ISoc runs a variety of events throughout the year and there is something for everyone to get involved in. Have a look at a snippet of them below!

Freshers Fortnight

Freshers Fortnight occurs during the first two weeks of Michaelmas, to allow Freshers to get a taste of what ISoc has to offer. The events provided range from a tour of the stunning Cambridge Central Mosque to an attempt at Escape Rooms and a whole lot more!

Charity Week

Charity Week is one of the highlights of Michaelmas term. Every year, thousands of pounds are raised for orphans and needy children worldwide. There are many activities to get involved with such as the Snowdon Hike, cake sales, the Dinner & Auction and more!

Roots Academy

Roots Academy cultivate faith through structured and relevant Islamic teaching tailored to the 21st century. They’re a non-profit with the mission to provide free, accessible and relevant education to Muslims in the busy and distracting 21st century and are our partner.

Speaker Events

Each year, speakers from different backgrounds and specialisms give talks on various topics, ranging from religion & spirituality to Islamic finance. Recent speakers include Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, Sheikh Saalim Al-Azhari and Ibrahim Khan.

Socials

Socials form an important role of the society in bringing Muslims together and cultivating long lasting friendships. These often run as consistent events such as chills in the Prayer Room and sports or more one off events such as visiting a local restaurant.

Muslimah Week

During Muslimah Week in early Lent term, we celebrate the lives of Muslim women past and present. Through a combination of spiritual talks, socials, and activities we take inspiration from women in Islam to strengthen our own faith and learn from their accomplishments.

Explore Islam Week

Explore Islam Week in Lent Term celebrates Islam and encourages religious dialogue. People interact and attend a range of activities during the week such as exhibitions, open mic night, interfaith dinner, and talks with academics and knowledgeable people.

Homeless Outreach

Homeless Outreach has run for many years and aims to distribute food and hot drinks to the local homeless pop. Volunteers sign up to help set up and distribute the food in groups around Cambridge, as well as to have a chat with homeless people.

Ramadan

There aren’t many better times of the year than the holy month of Ramadan. ISoc strives to bring the community together by organising large-scale Iftars for Muslims to open their fast together. We have even had the chance to host an Interfaith Iftar and an Iftar Formal!

Garden Party

The end of exams Garden Party is often the last big event of the academic year and allows students, who finish exams at different times, to celebrate the end of the exam period together with friends. It is also a chance to say goodbye to those graduating.

Biennial Dinner

The Biennial Dinner, hosted every two years, is a special occasion where many ISoc alumni return to Cambridge to catch up with old friends. This is an opportunity for both alumni and current students to raise money for the ISoc, enjoy an insightful talk and great food.

Access
conference

Our annual summer Access Conference is an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about Cambridge life and get one-to-one support on the application process. ISoc volunteers provide an insightful day for students hoping to apply to Cambridge.
